MONUMENT OF 11,000 NAMES

Following the abolition of slavery in The Netherlands, freed slaves received surnames.
This monument was originally created in 2013 for the exhibition ‘Black & White’ (Zwart & Wit) in the Tropenmuseum. For the Keti Koti Festival, 2016, the 153th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in The Netherlands, the Tropenmuseum wanted to place the monument in the Oosterpark again. We created a new design which can now be displayed yearly during this event because its designed to be transported and stored.

This Monument is a redesign of the Monument of 11,000 names by Burobraak created in 2013 for the Tropenmuseum
